Some of my favorite… Supplements!
My patients frequently ask me, “What vitamins should I take?”
It really depends on the disease process(es), age of the patient, and what help/relief the patient is looking for. Many of my patients who are middle aged to elderly females, I always recommend Vitamin D and Calcium. Are all created equal? Probably not, but some are better than none.
Many patients (men and women) have elevated LDL and Triglycerides due to genetics and poor diet. Counseling on this topic is never ending, especially with the Standard American Diet (SAD). So with these patients, I highly recommend Fish Oil. Again, not all are created the same. High potency is something you should look for and an EPA and DHA ratio of 3:1.
Even the patient’s with chronic pain may need something gentle and anti-inflammatory. Alternatives include Fish Oil, CBD and CBD/THC tinctures, and Magnesium. Muscle spasms, insomnia, and pain can benefit from a compounded magnesium and/or CBD (start low, and go slow-in dose).
Bloating and constipation is a common complaint and my go-to’s are eliminating exogenous flour based carbohydrates and sugars and adding a probiotic daily.
